I had the privilege of doing a video on dental health for my daughter’s company last month. One of the questions they asked me was “What are the top dental problems you see in your practice?” I would have to say, besides grinding or clenching teeth, is the increase of decay in young adults.
Dentistry has done an excellent job in preventing tooth decay with fluoridation and sealants on children’s six and twelve year old molars. We need to do a better job in educating patients, about the dangers of energy and sport drinks on teeth. Energy drinks are very popular among young people whose teeth are prone to problems due to the porous nature of immature tooth enamel.
We are aware of the dangers of sodas and their sugar content, but sport and energy drinks have high acidity levels that damage teeth. They are really just glorified sodas with as much or more sugar content. Tell your kids to at least rinse their mouth out with water if they can’t brush for a while.
Did You Know:
One can of soda (12 ounces) has approximately
10 tea spoons of sugar.
Have a great Independence Day with your families. We appreciate you and are here to serve your dental needs in the years to come.
