I wanted to take advantage of this digital impression (the presence of this digital media on your screen), to tell you a little more about some other digital impressions (or 3-D intraoral scans) that my staff and I are even more excited about – the ones we’ve been taking of our patients mouths in our office.
I’m excited to announce that we recently invested in an iTero® Element 5D Plus, the best 3-D intraoral scanner available from Align Technologies, the company that pioneered invisible orthodontics with Invisalign® and that continues to set the bar for excellence in this field. The digital impressions we’re taking with our new iTero are at the cutting edge of technology used to create digital models of the soft and hard tissues in your mouth. Using a scanning wand, a state-of-the-art computer, and advanced software, we can stitch thousands of images together to create a 3-D model of your mouth in a matter of minutes!
Traditional dental impressions – those taken with impression material and trays – can be messy, inconvenient, and even uncomfortable for patients (as those of you who have had the pleasure of gagging on the material may know). These digital impressions are faster, cleaner, and more accurate. What does that mean for you? For starters, it means less time in the chair, a more comfortable experience, quicker turnarounds on lab work, and an opportunity to really appreciate, micron by micron, what’s really going on in your mouth. Near-Infared Technology (NIRI) is a function that aids in cavity detection. And the Invisalign Outcome Simulator can provide some quick insight into what Invisalign treatment could do for your smile.
Given the number of applications – restorative, orthodontic, diagnostic, educational, etc. – you can see why we’re so excited to have added this technology to our arsenal. If you’d like to learn more, you can check out some of the links below, or you can ask me personally the next time you visit.
